A five-minute walk away, below Broadway and Bleecker Street, in a concrete bunker where the Black Panthers once met, lies Nom de Guerre. Founded by Isa Saalabi, and Holly Harnsongkram (co-owners of the Williamsburg, Brooklyn, boutique ISA), graffiti artist Devon Ojas (who designs the graphics for the store’s in-house label), and former Stussy store manager Wil Whitney, NDG is creative collective cum high-end Army/Navy store. Its name effectively translates to “wartime alias”. “It’s the idea of preserving one’s identity,” says Harnsongkram, ... a former fashion editor. The foursome, who come from a disparate mix of hip-hop, skater, and fine art backgrounds, found common footing in military-inspired clothes. “Utilitarianism is the nucleus that brings together all the different genres in fashion,” says Saalabi. “We like it because it’s non-elitist.”...
