STARS & STYLES PORTRAITS OF NEW YORK
The process of social documentation can be addictive, especially
when it involves investigating our own environment. This
time our curiosity took us and our circa 1970s Polaroid camera
to New York City. In an attempt to document the creative forces
who share and shape our cultural landscape, we shot 150 New
Yorkers in a little under six days. Not a pre-meditated grouping,
but rather an organically unraveled network of people, acquaintances,
friends, and friends of friends. 15 minute, one-on-one
encounters, intimate and personal moments resulting in the
revelation of each subject’s inner beauty and stature, a subtle
combination of genuine sincerity, truth, and an inevitable touch
of glamour.
A portfolio symbolic of the innumerable possible combinations
that can occur at any given time, on any given day; random
and yet revealing of the personalities and most certainly the
spirit of New York. From varied social circles, communities, and
backgrounds, many of these people have come together for the
first time on these pages. Unsuspecting members of the cultural
community to which they all belong, they reflect individually and
collectively the very essence of the city’s creative soul.
